This year will be my 14th year at CrossRoads and my 24th year teaching ELA. Before teaching 6th grade, I taught 8th grade and was a Curriculum Specialist. I love teaching 6th graders! I went to Wofford College and USC to earn my education degree. My husband is an attorney who works in downtown Columbia, my daughter Alden is a cardiology physician assistant in Atlanta, and my son AJ is a 7th grader at Dutch Fork Middle. My dog Buddy is the sweetest animal I have ever met, and Gideon, my cat, was rescued as a kitten right here at CrossRoads! He was born in the bushes outside the cafeteria exit. He's a cool cat!
I LOVE to travel. Recently I traveled to London, England, where I visited the real Platform 9 3/4 at King's Cross Station (all you Harry Potter fans know what I am talking about). I also spent some time recently along the coast of northern California. It was one of the most beautiful locations I have ever visited. My daughter and I traveled to Chicago, and I helped sail a "tall ship" across Lake Michigan. Last summer my family and I visited Universal Studios in Florida, and I fell in love with Diagon Alley. It was as if the books of Harry Potter opened up and we just walked right in.
I have always loved school ever since my first day of kindergarten (see picture to the left) all the way through my senior year at Irmo High School (look for the female drum major wearing the white coat above). You are very fortunate to be at CrossRoads - it is a fabulous school. You have so much to look forward to as you are just beginning 6th grade. I am looking forward to being your ELA teacher this year!
